SUMMARY:Pottery Workshop: Pumpkin Jar
DESCRIPTION:In need of whimsy? Want to play in mud? Look no further! Explore the medium of clay in a supportive and encouraging artistic environment. Follow along with a demo while we make pumpkin jars or design your very own idea.  \nEach workshop begins with an introduction to clay for those who have never participated in ceramics before. We’ll go over the limitations and techniques of making a pottery piece\, then it’s your turn to play with clay! \nWorkshop includes: \n\nAll materials\, tools\, and firings \nStep by step tutorial\nHands on help\nA fun experience for all ages! \n\nChildren are welcome to attend when accompanied by a parent – both must purchase tickets. \nAllow 3-4 weeks for pieces to be finished. Each piece needs to dry slowly and completely before it’s ready for the first firing. All pieces are then glazed in clear glaze and fired once again. You will be contacted when your piece is ready for pickup from CityArts. If you cannot pick up your piece\, it can be shipped to you – you will be responsible for all shipping and handling fees. \nPlease keep in mind the delicate nature of ceramics. Sometimes pieces break or come apart in the kiln. In some cases\, it may be able to be glued back together to be functional again. If a piece breaks beyond repair before pickup\, you will be contacted to come to a resolution. SUMMARY:"Calamity" Solo Exhibition by Jaime Margary Opens at CityArts
DESCRIPTION:Years in the making\, Calamity is a passion project marking the return of Puerto Rican artist Jaime Margary to the public art scene. A vision born from a near-death vow\, Jaime turned the memory of a mountain sunset into a story-driven art series. \n\nThrough various mediums\, Jaime Margary portrays the journey of a black rabbit struggling to prevent her community’s downfall at the hands of a strange fox. The show’s cold\, dream-like world channels a poignant narrative mirroring Earth’s crisis cycles. \n\nIn keeping with previous exhibitions\, Jaime includes mediums he is known for while introducing new ones. Frozen landscapes appear to emit light in his largest paintings yet\, nightmarish creatures defy notions of beauty through clay sculptures and stippled illustrations\, all joined by his meticulously detailed 3D models\, which are then printed and painted by hand with acrylics. Uniting the series is Jaime’s new animated short\, setting a cinematic tone for the entire show. \n\nCalamity opens November 19 at CityArts\, 39 S Magnolia Avenue\, Orlando\, FL 32801.

DESCRIPTION:Orlando Story Club is a live storytelling competition that takes place at CityArts Orlando (39 S Magnolia Ave). All regular shows begin at 7:00 p.m.\, doors open at 6:30 p.m.\n\nEvery Orlando Story Club event has a theme. Anyone with a story that fits with that theme can enter by putting their name in the story hat. Ten names are drawn at random. Each storyteller is given 5 minutes to impress the audience\, and the top 3 tellers take home prizes.\n\nIt’s a night of laughter\, fun\, and connection! Join us for our not-so-serious storytelling competition! What’s a one-liner?\n\nIt is an anonymous story (true to the storyteller) that can fit on one notecard and relates to the theme of the evening.\n\nFor example\, if the theme is “Past Our Bedtime\,” a one-liner is: “I truly thought there were monsters under my bed until I was in high school.”\n\nWho reads these one-liners? Our awesome hosts\, Danielle and Bobby\, read them in between storytellers. Don’t worry.
